Due to its excellent ability to remove thick oils, it is also very effective in removing oily make up from skin and pores. The charcoal (ashes) in African Black Soap helps neutralise body odours.  As it cleanses so well, you may want to remoisturise with a drop or two of our pure argan oil to make your skin feel soft, smooth and silky.

We are confident that this dark brown crumbly soap will become a staple in your cleansing routine.

You may notice black ash particles in the soap, this is proof that the soap you have is genuine African Black Soap made the traditional way. Real African Black Soap is soft, so, please do read the usage instructions to help you get the most out of your purchase, and remember, Real African Black Soap is NOT BLACK, it looks like fruit cake.

If you are new to black soap, consider using it once every few days to start. You can gradually increase its use as your skin gets used to the soap.

It is always good to do a patch test on the arm before using a product no matter how gentle it is (for example, the face). This is a standard precaution as it is possible to be allergic to any soap or cosmetic or skin care product. We are all different, and we may not know of any sensitivities we may have to certain ingredients. If your skin becomes irritated or develops a rash, discontinue use.

Do note that our soaps are made in small batches with natural ingredients. This being the case, variations in physical characteristics like colour and hardness are to be expected. Functionality will remain the same.

Usage

For the body and face, it is recommended to rub a sponge/face towel on the soap, then use the soaped sponge to clean the face and body. Allow soap to dry on a well drained soap dish (see our accessories section). When soap becomes too small to use comfortably, wet a new bar of soap and stick them together. You’ll never waste soap this way.

You may find bits of charcoal or burnt shells in the soap. This is normal. This proves that the soap was made by the traditional method.

We recommend this soap for those with oily skin. Face, scalp or body. So if you have dry or normal skin, please use our Goats Milk Soap or Shea Butter Soap or Cold Process Soap. For example, someone could have an oily scalp and oily face but normal or dry body skin; such a person could use the black soap for the scalp and face and shea butter or cold process soap for the body. Check with us if you need clarity, we are here to serve.
