Scalp Care

Treating Scalp Issues

Scalp Care TriangleMany of us suffer from some form of scalp irritation or problem. What do we do? We get a bottle of shampoo. There are three important factors that need to be considered when trying to treat hair issues. The Ingredients, the Application Method and the Contact Time the product is in contact with the scalp. All are incredibly important.

Let’s start with the most overlooked factor, contact time. Most shampoos and treatments are in contact with your scalp for 2 to 5 minutes. There are two commercial approached taken. Using a mild shampoo daily, or using a very strong treatment for a period of time. In the case of the mild approach, you are usually advised to wash often (daily) and to wash twice each session. What this does is to get you to use more of a product, and, a more serious issue is that the bacteria or yeast becomes immune to the treatment. The strong approach usually causes skin to peel and is expensive. Do you really want something that strong on your scalp?

So, it is very important that the product used to help treat the scalp is gentle, safe and stays on the scalp for sufficient time to get its job done, and, solves the problem after a reasonable period of time (time varies depending on the severity of the issue).

The other important issue is the application method. We are treating a scalp issue. The product should go on and into the scalp. Not the hair. We find that massaging the treatment into the scalp with your finger tips to be of great help. The massage should not be too aggressive, or too gentle. If your scalp feels good, you are doing it right. The massage stimulates blood circulation to the scalp, and this is always good. Your follicles get nourished, the treatment goes into the scalp and your scalp feels great. What more could you ask for?

And finally, the ingredients. If your scalp treatment contains alcohol, or SLS, or parabens, or any other stuff that you can’t pronounce easily, you don’t want it. This usually aggravates the problem. There are many traditional herbs and wood oils that have been used for hundreds of years for hair fall, dandruff and other scalp issues. And they work without side effects. We at shea have been strong proponents of natural treatments. We have seen traditional remedies work. A good friend of ours in INDIA introduced a very special hair oil to us that helped with hair fall and dandruff control. [ Feedback from customers is that this product has helped stimulate hair growth. However, this is a very subjective benefit that depends on many factors, thus, we decided not to market this benefit. If you do observe new hair growth, we would be very happy for you.

Some of the ingredients found in our Ayurvedic Hair Oil for hair fall and dandruff control are essential oils of Patchouli (anti-bacterial), Lavender (anti-fungal), Tea Tree (anti-fungal and anti-bacterial), Rosemary (anti-dandruff) and Neem (anti-bacterial).  Other ingredients include extracts of Brahmi (repair of hair follicles), Shikakai (vitamin C&D), Mahabhrungaraj (promotes hair growth) and Tulsi (dandruff control). There are so many ingredients in this oil that it’ll blow your mind, and, best of all, the ingredients are natural, gentle and safe. This allows one to apply and leave it on for two hours or more, thus, letting the ingredients do their job. This is definitely a product for those with scalp issues, and, for those who just want to maintain a healthy scalp and head of hair.  Share this info with friends. You would be helping someone.

Drip about 5 drops into your cupped palm. Then, dip your fingertips into the oil pool in your cupped palm and apply the oil evenly onto your scalp. Then, use your fingertips and massage thoroughly into your scalp. You should enjoy the massage. Your scalp should feel good.

Leave it on your scalp for at least 2 hours, or overnight if you wish. When you wash it off, use a gentle shampoo like our Seaweed Bath Co shampoo.

For dandruff control, apply daily for 2 weeks, and then gradually taper off to 3 times a week for 4 weeks. If the problem clears up, then, great. Else continue till the problem clears up.

Hair fall control take s a bit longer. Use 3 times a week for 4 weeks, then, 2 time a week for 3 months. Observe the results. Remember. And deep, comforting scalp massage with the oil are key. There are some cases where hair fall cannot be stopped, like, hair fall cause by medication.

Remember, use the correct shampoo, one that does not contain nasty chemicals. Try our solid bar shampoos and our Seaweed Bath Co Shampoos.

Nothing beath the dancing flames of a candle at night. Our candles are scented using pure essential oils blended by scent masters in England to create lovely fragrances that create a wonderful ambience in a room. They are made with a very high quality low melting point wax and a special wick to ensure the candles last a long time. Our candles can be made to release their wonderful fragrances in two ways, either by lighting the wick or by using our special candle warming lamp. We offer the second option for situations when an open flame is not a viable option.

Reed Diffusors
Reed diffusors are a simple and elegant way of fragrancing a space continuously throughout the day with a fairly strong scent. They are ideal for washrooms and small spaces. Our reed diffusors come from Grasse in France. Grasse is where all the scent experts sit, and create classic fragrances. Our reed diffusors use pure essntial oils in an organic oil base and last for months. The rate of fragrance diffusion can be adjusted by increasing or redusing the number of reeds used. A gentle air movement in the room they are placed helps fill the room with their magnificent aroma. Our Reed Diffusors keep on scenting long after the oils have finished. Ours have lasted for more than 6 month!

Essential Oils
Essential oils come from all over the world. Ours come from all over the world and beautifully bottled in different coloured coded bottles. Our essential oils are of a slightly higher grade than most. These are suitable for both ambience scenting as well as topical use when blended with a massage oil.  Essential oils for ambience fragrancing are most often used by adding a few drops into water in a tea light heated vessel. Essential oils have wonderful properties and often used as a single scent. However, they can be blended to suit personal preferences.

Infused Card Diffusors
Created in England, our infused cards are ideal for very small confined areas like car interiors and cupboards. There is a trick to using them to make them last a very long time. Ours have been known to last for more than 3 months when used correctly. Such infused Card Diffusors use a masterfully blended essnetial oils to eliminate odours and made cupboards, drawers and car interiors smell great.

Fragrance Melts
This is one of the cleverest things we have from England. We callthem little Hotties. These are little wax pellets with a high amount of essential oils infused into them. They are sold in a box of 100g (any mix of the more than 20 fregarances we have) and the idea is here is to give you the power to be creative and to create your own personal blend of fragrance. Pop 3 to 5 pieces into the bown of a essental oil burner, light the tealight below and VOILA! Your own custom fragrance. They last for a long time.

So, if you want to switch fragrances after a while. Simply let it cool, and pop out the pellet and keep it. When you want to use it again, put it back into the burner and it metls again and fills your room with the wonderful scent you created.

Use lemon, lemongrass, grapefruit or green tea or a combination of these to create freshness,  Rosemary and Thyme as a brain freshner to improve alertness, Lavender, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang for calmness, Vanilla, Spicy Citrus, Cinnamon for a cozy atmosphere, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Peppermint for easy breathing etc. There are just somany combinations. Try SHEA’s Home Scenting, it will blow your mind! As all our products use pure essential oils, they are safe for the family and environment .

Power of Fragrances

Thursday, February 5, 2015 12:29:30 PM Asia/Singapore

There is a good reason why we focus so much on fragrances; scents enrich our lives, and create an atmosphere that can either help calm us or put us into a focused mindset.

Kids and Flowers

Fragrances have associations the world over:
Lavender is a good sleep aid and has calming effects
Peppermint help alleviate stress
Cinnamon takes away fatigue
Citrus tones are associated with cleansing, as well as improving mood and concentration.

We would like to help you harness the power of scents to your advantage, you could feel more comfortable in a variety of situations, starting from the home.

Our sense of smell is about 10,000 times more sensitive than any of our other senses, and as such play a big part in how we think and feel. But why is that, exactly?

The Smell Report has found that, "our olfactory receptors are directly connected to the limbic system, the most ancient and primitive part of the brain, which is thought to be the seat of emotion. Smell sensations are relayed to the cortex, where ‘cognitive’ recognition occurs, only after the deepest parts of our brains have been stimulated. Thus, by the time we correctly name a particular scent as, for example, ‘vanilla’, the scent has already activated the limbic system, triggering more deep-seated emotional responses.” Essentially, scents trigger reactions in our head, which then lead to an emotional response.

Having the best air freshener to alter home fragrance is one of a number of ways to boost performance, but do note that experience of scents are a very individual experience; smell is the most powerful conjuror of memories, and could create a pleasant or unpleasant feeling, depending on the person who picks up the scent.
